I Never Told You by, Chevy

During the summer time there’s always drama in the Hamptons because people’s emotions starts to heat up and all the secrets that was once in the dark comes to light. Sydney never thought anyone could keep a secret until the day she found out her life was a lie.
Sydney and her mom Stacey went to their old cabin for Sydney’s 16th birthday. It was a gift for her birthday since they couldn’t celebrate it before. The cabin was small. The furniture was dusty and smelled like a skunk sprayed it. The best part about the cabin was the beautiful purple carnation flowers that were on the patio surrounding a crooked, antique looking bench. Sydney still had her old bed there from the last time she came which was 15 years ago before her father left. Sydney never knew her father or anything about him. All she knows is that he was a smart talented man who loved her very much or at least that’s what her mother said. All Sydney ever wanted was to see her dad again, have a conversation with him, but as she got older she lost hope of ever seeing him again.
After arriving Sydney took a shower so she won’t smell like a skunk. Stacey walked towards Sydney’s bathroom to tell her to get ready to go to a bonfire. But as soon as she’s about to knock on the door she hears Sydney singing. At first she had a gay smile on her face but then that smile turned into something so sour and stern. She went into her room to think and didn’t come out until Sydney was getting dressed.
Stacey walked into Sydney’s room and said, “I never knew you could sing like that. “
“I don’t know I just sing for fun,” Sydney said while struggling her shoulders.
“Your father use to stay in the shower for ages singing non stop until he got tired of standing”
“Really? How come you never told me he could sing?”
“Some things are better left unsaid. But anyways get ready to go to the Bonfire with Uncle James.” Stacey walked out the room really fast and tripping over thin air like she was nervous or scared of something.
Uncle James was a handsome man he was so perfect. He had a nice sun kiss tan with curly hair. He was so tall that most of the time he needed someone to tie his sneakers because he didn’t feel like reaching. He had beautiful small almond hazel colored eyes. He was funny, a great musician and so kind. He is always on tour so Sydney barely gets to see him anymore. Although Uncle James isn’t Sydney’s real uncle he was the closest father figure she had.
Uncle James came in his red mustang to come pick Sydney up. He started driving really fast into the driveway hitting the grey trashcan. Stacey heard the noise and ran outside. She saw that all the trash fell on the ground and her face turned red. She tried to calm her self down from exploding so she looked at him and yelled at the top of her lungs “hurry up before anything else happen.” I ran quickly down the stairs. Sydney’s hair was still wet from washing it she didn’t have any time for it to dry. She was wearing a wine sweetheart crop top with some black shorts and a beautiful sapphire necklace that is also her birthstone.
Sydney was so excited to see James.  They haven’t seen each other in one year because James was so busy on tour. She ran up to him to give him a big hug and he picked her up like a child. He held on to her so tight that she could barely breathe.    They went to the bonfire. There were just a few people. They were all singing, dancing and listening to music. James introduced Sydney to his friends. One of his friends said you both look just alike. Sydney couldn’t see the resemblance but she whispered to him “I wish you were my dad.” He laughed hysterically and said “I’m already your dad.” They both started to laugh but James laugh seemed a little off. James started singing songs by Sam Smith with the rest of his friends. He seemed so happy.
James dropped Sydney back home. He said “thanks for coming I appreciate it.” She gave him a nod and went up to her room. Sydney was so happy that she got to spend time with Uncle James. She wished she got to hang out with him all the time. Being around him made her wonder what it was like to have a real dad. She wondered what would happen if her dad stayed and didn’t leave.
Sydney started looking at her old dusty bookshelf. It was pink and six inches tall.  There were so many scratches She glided her fingers on all of her books. Then she saw an unusual book. The book didn’t look like it book instead it looked like their was something hidden. It was so clear you could put your hands right through it.
Sydney took the book and looked inside there were only ten thick pages in the book. The book was bigger than her head. She skimmed through the pages and they were all blank. I saw a small envelope. There was a letter inside the envelope and some pictures.
The letter was from Uncle James to Stacey saying,
“I know I haven’t been there for you and the baby but I just want to say I am sorry. I am so sorry for everything. I regret choosing my career over our family. I just wanted to prove to everyone that I could make it. I want to show people that I am great. I know that there is no excuse in this world that could repay for the damage I did to our family. I am deeply sorry that I let you and Sydney down. When she finally gets older I want you tell her that I am father. I am just too guilty and ashamed to tell her myself. I am not asking for your forgiveness. I just want you to know that I will always care about you and our daughter. I will probably be on the airport by now but I just want you to know that I will forever be in your hearts.”
                                                                                                Love,
James
Tears started pouring down Sydney’s face. She was so shocked. She started twitching and her hand was paralyzed. All her life she never thought she would get to meet her father. She didn’t understand how could he be right there but so far. She didn’t understand why didn’t she know about this. She was so confused full of unasked questions. Her face turned red. Tears stop running down her face. She had no more tears left that she had to scream until her voice cracked. Her heart started to hurt because she felt crushed. Her mom ran into the room. She saw the fear in Sydney’s eyes. Stacey looked to floor and saw the letter.
Stacey asked with terror, “what were you doing with this letter?”
Sydney ignored her question and said, “It doesn’t matter because I already know. How can you betray me like this? Why didn’t you tell me earlier? Did he leave because of me?
Stacey sent James a message on her iPhone to come over.
She sat next to Sydney to comfort her. She held on to Sydney’s trembling trying to explain her what happened. Sydney pulled away.  Stacey started to explain what happened. At first Sydney wasn’t going to listen but then she became interested. James came and asked if it was ok if he told her the truth. He realized he wasn’t scared or ashamed. James started to tell her that he didn’t want to ruin his career and wanted a better life for a family. They both apologized and said they were sorry they never told her. They talked everything out for hours and Sydney started to accept the fact that he was her father. He

wasn’t a stranger at all but she still wanted to be mad at him. She realized she couldn't  stay mad at him because all she ever wanted was to have a father.

The next day James decided he wanted to take a break from being a musician. He wanted to be as close as he can to Sydney and Stacey while he has the chance. Sydney and Stacey moved into a house next to the cabin. James decided to stay in the cabin. A few months later James and Stacey decided to get back together. The family was finally getting back together. Sydney felt complete.

  2. Your story comes together well. I really like the plot of your story and how Sydney is not such a perfect character. Maybe he might relate to some teens today. I like your story a lot and the diary entries within it makes it pop and become more interesting rather than the character just saying what's going on. She really expresses her emotions and his thoughts about many daily situations and what he's going through! It's a really amazing love story and I want to hear more about Sydney and her love life and interests!

  3. Nice!! Your story is really cute, I love the relationship between Sydney and uncle James and I love that you added the letter from James to Stacy. However be careful with your word choice because you switch from 1st to 3rd person and also you don't have to mention their name every time they do something, try using figurative language instead

  6. Chevy, this story was so great. It's hard to deal with only knowing one parent. I felt u captured the raw emotion perfectly. It was a great idea to include such a happy plot twist. I had no clue her uncle was her father. You dial really expressed things about the characters that would have been hard to capture otherwise. The letter excerpt was also brilliant. My suggestion would be to fix your sentence structure. Amazing story.
