There's a point in the life of every individual where something extreme occurs that changes the course of their life. The year was 2015, I must have been 16 years old and completely unaware of the things within me.
It was just another normal day or so I thought. Complete silence is all you could hear with the exception of the clock going *tick, tock, tick, tock*. I remember waking up at 7:00 am but I wish I hadn't because what the future awaited for me was beyond terrifying and I would prefer death over it anytime. I made my way down to the living room and I found myself in solitude, my parents where nowhere to be found.
"Where could they could be? Certainly they can't be at work because its their day off."
I thought of the many possibilities of what my parents could be doing but decided to wait and catch up with Pretty Little Liars. Two hours had passed and I grew curious and worried. Ever since I was adopted by my parents at the age of five, my love for them grew immensely and I can't imagine what I would do if something horrific happened to them. I stood up from the sofa when I noticed that across from me was the most magnificent object laying still on the floor and shining brightly under the sun rays coming through the window. What's a knife doing on the floor?
"Wh----why...why did you do it?" she asked.
" I had to."
….....huh? Before I knew it a rush of adrenaline took over my legs. It was as if I had no control over my body. I walked faster by the minute until I started running. Running towards...the garage?
The minute the door handle and my hand came in contact I felt a weird sensation eating me up. As the door opened a rush of wind blew in my face. A wind that carried an unpleasant odor that filled my nostrils. I walked down the stairs of the garage making sure to turn on the lights. As the stairs came to an end I notice a fluid traveling from the stairs and further into the room. I walked and walked and walked until......
"NO! NO! NO! Why? Why me? I loved them. They can't be dead! They just can't."
Father sat on a pond of blood on the floor with his back against the wall and his head tilted to the side. Blood flowing out of the multiple stabs he had received and staining his white shirt. On his lap laid my mother, with her face towards the ceiling. Her eyes wide open and held amusement but mostly it held fear. The fear of being minutes away from being stab in the heart like she was. My legs lifted me up and the tears stopped.
"I need to call the police. Yes. They will help me. Help me arrest the criminal that sucked the life out of me."
I headed towards the living room picked the phone and dialed 911.
"911 New York Police Department. What is your emergency?" the person on the other line asked.
"My parents...someone has murdered them" I said.
"We would send help this instant. Where are you located?"
"46 Glenmore street"
"Help would be right there."
"Thank you" I said and the phone call ended.
Fifteen minutes after I had called a ruckus took over the peaceful atmosphere. All you could hear were sirens and the ring of the door bell. When I opened the door about 6 officers rushed inside. One of them asked "Where is the crime scene?" I then said "in the garage" and took them there. When we stepped inside the garage the officers covered their noise and stood their. Two of the officers covered their eyes and I knew this terrified them. One of the officers took me aside and started questioning me.
"Are you the daughter of the victims?" the officer asked me.
"Well, yes but I'm adopted."
"Ok. What's your name?"
"I'm Jessenia."
"Where were you when the act was committed?"
I concentrated but I had no idea where I was so I said "I think I was asleep. I don't really know when this happened. I just found their bodies."
"We will have to research the entire house."
"That's fine I just want you to arrest the criminal who killed my parents."
"We will do our best." he said.
The investigation lasted for hours. My lips sealed without a beep coming from them. I felt like my eyes were popping out with every clue the officers found. We walked inside the living room and carefully inspired every corner. Until we found that behind the sofa laid shattered pieces of the beautiful royal blue base adorned with golden flowers.
"Miss, do you have any clue how this got here?"
"No this is the first time I see it."
"Well, it seems like the criminal grabbed the base and used it to hit you're father. That would explain why you're father has an injury in his head."
On the other side of the living room we heard someone yelling "Officer John! I think there's something you should see!"
We rushed into the room to find the knife. The same bloody knife I saw. The knife that brought so many memories.
Without thinking I shouted "I remember it all now!"
"What do you remember?" John asked.
"I did it! But..."
"Miss, what exactly did you do?"
" They were shouting AND SHOUTING!!! I just couldn't take it anymore.
I told you we shouldn't have adopted her! But you never listen!
Well, I'm sorry for trying to make a family!
Guess what sweetheart? Instead of creating a family you're destroying it. We were better off by ourselves. Our lives would've been so much easier. You and I without any interference. But you didn't listen and you went around my back and adopted this stupid child without my permission!
I'm sorry!!!
Sorry isn't going to cut it, Natalie! You adopted a child and she's not even normal! She's MENTAL! What would everyone say?!?!"
Those words kept repeating in my head and not once have left me. When stormed off the kitchen...my mom. Slowly she faced me. Her eyes looked straight into mines and send shivers through my body and I noticed that she was different.
"I wish you were dead!!! You ruined my life! I wish I never had adopted you!" she repeated over and over again. Those words felt like daggers aimed right in my heart and I was determined to stop this pain. I walked into the living room and stared at my dad. He ignored me like he always did. I ran to the kitchen and crapped the base. BOOM! Dad felt into a deep sleep and to make sure he wouldn't wake up I grabbed a knife. I cut him for every time he made me feel like a monster.
"I'm not a MONSTER! I'm like you!"
My mom came running into the living room.
And asked "What's with all the no-
Wh...why...why did you do it?" she asked.
"I had to. He was screaming at you and he wanted to separate us. Mommy I love you." as I said those words I ran to hug her but she only pushed me to the ground.
"Get of me! You're crazy. I'm not your mother and I will never love you."
"If you don’t love me, then who will?" I asked.
"Nobody because you're useless!"
"AAARGH! Mommy you might want to close your eyes. I promise this is going to hurt."
Slowly I uncovered the knife hidden behind my back. My hand held a strong grasp on the bloody object that I felt it had become part of my hand. I was the predator prepare to have my prey. Only 5 feet separated us. She knew it was destined to be and didn't lift a finger to prevent it. Suddenly the room filled with her screams.
"Aaaaaaah!"
Those were her lasts words.
"Jessenia! Jessenia! Put your hands up" said officer John.
"What?! Officer....Officer there's no need to aim me with a gun."
"Put your hands up!"
"Goodbye" were my last words before I jumped out the window. If I can't have a life with my parents, then I prefer death.

Jessenia, this story was captivating and so dramatic--I love it. Your use of dialogue really develops the main character. I enjoyed how u incorporated real problems regarding adoptive kids and their parents. Adoptive kids tend to feel desperate for love and approval. I saw that a lot in you story. Your plot development was great. There were no awkward pauses or breaks. I love this story.

This story had a lot going on but was managed in a very clear and organized way. It was nice to see how all of the characters mentioned in the story have created their own individual sense of being through their reactions to situations presented.Great story.
ReplyDeleteIntense! Excellent job creating suspense and tension and unraveling details as the story progresses. Great use of dialogue to move the plot and develop character. I enjoyed it!
