Best Friends by Indi

She lives by many quotes-- “Treat others the way you want to be treated”, “ Hakuna Matata”, but her favorite would be the one written by Maya Angelou that states, “ Always have the courage to love one more time and always one more time”. This little girl is filled with hopes and dreams but the same ones always seem to repeat in her head at night. They consist of her being with the one she loved for years, becoming a well-known fashion designer, traveling the world, and growing old with someone special and dear to her heart. However, she feels although she would never be good enough to make the one she loves actually be with her. His name is Nathaniel.
That’s her best friend of six years but—She’s in love with him. This isn’t a new feeling for her-- She’s had it for sometime. Even though she had a boyfriend knowing her feelings for her best friend, she was terrified of ever telling Nathaniel because of possible rejection so she put her feelings on the back burner in hopes that they would go away. But of course they didn’t as most love stories go. She soon found out that Nathaniel had felt the same way but he wasn’t ready for a long relationship with her. He knew he was immature and that he didn’t know what he wanted and he told her exactly that. Of course, she was upset but she respected his honestly, after all, most boys at the age of 15/16 could never be so honest and open about their feelings.
Nathaniel has stressed the fact that he didn’t want to hurt his best friend and said that she has two places in his life, either his best friend or his future wife. He had really thought about her and wanted to make sure that she would stay in his life for as long as time would allow. Even though this isn’t a fairytale ending, the girl still has hope about herself and her best friend and vice versa. And yes they aren’t dating but they have the best, honest, open, trustworthy and humorous relationship that any teenager or person could ever ask for.
It’s been five years and the girl is turning 21. Her and Nathaniel are still best friends but a lot has happened since their first confession of each other’s feelings. Nathaniel is headed toward the NFL as a right tackle playing offense for the Indiana Pacers and if he succeeds their draft, he will make history as the youngest right tackle at the age of 22. Also, the girl is well on her way to becoming the fashion designer of her dreams will a little more hard work and more time she will also own her own line. Furthermore, the two star crossed lovers have been hanging out lately more than usual and Nathaniel has shown signs of maturity. He isn’t talking to other girls and is hanging out with her like he used to and is devoting all his time to his best friend. He bought her a promise a ring that signifies that you will be together until engagement because he wanted to make his best friend, his long-term girlfriend. He then asked her to meet her at Central Park West 85th street on a Saturday around 5:30 p.m. on a nice Fall day mid September— Then everything changed...
“ Hey beautiful, I missed you”, Nathaniel said to the girl excited and nervous.
“ HI NATHAN”, said the girl with bright eyes in a high-pitched excited voice. “I missed you so much too. This was such a surprise for you to ask me to go to Central Park with you”.
“ I know laughs, but you already know I’m full of surprises. Come follow me though, I have another surprise for you”, said Nathaniel in a low hushed tone still nervous inside about the upcoming even but trying very hard not to show it.
“ Alright, oh my Gosh, I’m so excited! I really missed you baby boo”, the girl implied as she treaded by his side to hold his hand.

Nathaniel took his future girlfriend to her favorite secret place in Central Park that is surrounded by full trees and a little withered black park bench on which they sat upon. The wind was subtle, nut just enough to feel that it was present in the atmosphere around them and as the perfect sunset was ahead with the leaves rustling on the cement paved floor and the sounds of nature flooding the air like the chirping of red robins and blue birds, Nathaniel went on to talk to the girl.
“ So ma, there’s something I’d like to ask you. You’ve been in my life for 11 years and you’ve always had my back and been by my side. You are so beautiful inside and out”, Nathaniel proclaimed as he reached in his jacket pocket for the Pandora promise ring. “ I don’t want to spend another day without being able to call you mine, my girlfriend. With this promise ring, i promise to be yours forever. Will you be my girlfriend”?
“ OH MY GOSH NATHAN”, the girl said excited, shaky and in tears. “ YES, yes. Nathan I love you”.

The Newly announced couple began kissing and hugging each other passionately and full of excitement.

“ Happy birthday best friend, I hope this is a day to remember”...

  1. This story won me over a little, GOOD JOB! Your character development for Nathaniel was really good. He went from an immature and unsure boy to a serious and mature man.

  2. Yasssss gurllll the begging just pulled me in immediately. I love the enchanting influence of Maya Angelou. I also love how emotions are torn because they don't want to ruin their friendship but the girl can't help her feeling she's in love.

  3. Your story is so adorable. The beginning is my favorite part because it's very insiteful and immediately grabs your attention. Your story is also very relatable, it's probably every "fashion girls" dream. I do wish you developed their characters as individuals though. In the end good job. :)

  4. I liked how you transition smoothly time wise, everything was so cute, it made me go aww when Nathaniel proposed with a Pandora ring. Totally in the Nicolas Sparks category, hopefully one of us experiences that moment

  5. You used a tight plot structure and strong character development, especially of Nathan, to make it all come together as a sentimental, sweet story. Well done.
